Ausco Modular’s emergency response comes to the rescue

Tuesday, 17 May, 2011

On the morning of 27th April 2011, Wavell Heights Primary School suffered severe damage to several classrooms as a result of arson. Many were worried it would take a considerable time to get children back into their classrooms, but Ausco Modular had interim classrooms installed in less than a day.

Ausco Modular has worked closely with the Department of Education for a number of years, providing emergency services to the education department and Queensland schools. It’s a relationship made successful by Ausco Modular’s unrivalled experience in the quick response, transportation and installation of modular buildings.

“We have excellent relationships with the Department of Education and a proven track record of providing excellent project management in emergency situations,” said Angus Rayner, Eastern Regional Manager.

“By 9am on the morning of the fire, Ausco Modular was making provisions to have four classroom installed on site that same day.

“Our emergency response team immediately deployed a site manager, who managed the on-site team and arranged all installation equipment to be bought and delivered, while our logistics manager was arranging the delivery of the classrooms from our existing stock.”

Ausco Modular worked tirelessly with the Brisbane and Ipswich City Councils to ensure the buildings could be moved from Ausco’s hire yard to the school despite a ban on wide-load transportation during the Easter holidays.

By 6pm the buildings were on site and the footings in place.

“Ausco Modular has unrivalled experience in managing all aspects of a modular project,” said Mr Rayner.

“This is why we are able to offer an organisation like the Department of Education such dedicated and tailored emergency services.”

Working quickly, Ausco Modular completed the installation of all four buildings by 10pm, allowing the emergency furniture to be stored in the classrooms overnight.

“The success of a project like this is directly related to our expert installation teams, our relationships with the client and our suppliers, the quality of our stock and our knowledge of the logistics required to get the job done quickly.”
